John Opene is a seasoned oil and gas executive with more than twenty years’ hands-on experience delivering safe, reliable well programmes across land, swamp and offshore environments.
Rising from roustabout to senior operations leadership, he combines front-line technical credibility with strategic oversight, driving operational discipline that improves equipment reliability, compresses delivery timelines and reduces unit costs. John is recognised for turning complex drilling challenges into repeatable, performance-driven systems through rigorous planning, data-led decision making and clear cross-functional leadership.
A committed advocate of HSE excellence, he has consistently enforced “Goal Zero” standards on site and embeds risk mitigation into every phase of wells delivery from rig operations and logistics to cost control and stuck-pipe prevention.
His practical expertise is supported by formal qualifications including a BSc in Physics from Bayero University, IWCF Well Control Certification (Level 4), Stuck Pipe Prevention training and the SPDC Trade Test for Expert Drilling Supervisors.
